this is a documentary about a father and daughter on the brink of family collapse. after their parents' divorce, mai (alias) has been living with her father since she was young. as she grew up, mai stopped smiling. she gradually stopped going to school, and her relationship with her father became strained. she began to resort to violence, and fearing family collapse, her father desperately sought help from the hikikomori self-reliance support center.
